What is Mise-en-Scene?
Mise-en-Scene means "putting on stage" in French. It is the stage design and the arrangement of every actor in the scene. Whenever you are talking about mise-en-scene, it is the overall design of the set and clothes/accessories the characters are wearing.
Main Elements of Mise-en-Scene:
- Composition
- Production Design
- Lighting
- Costuming
- Hair/Makeup
- Film Texture
These elements are what you'll need to pay attention at whenever you are trying to identify the elements of a movie/show.
